Standards for Bowing Balls
The United States Bowling Congress (USBC
) maintains requirements for various properties of bowling balls, such as their size, hardness, number of holes, and ball balance. The USBC also mandates that bowling balls only be constructed from uniform, solid materials within a certain density, and that the weight of the balls cannot exceed 16 pounds. The diameter of bowling balls cannot exceed 8.595 inches. The balls must also include certain surface markings including, but not limited to, the manufacturer’s brand name, the ball name, an individual serial number, and the USBC logo.
